Our Lifestyle

With Our Two Dogs Archie and Maggie

Our lifestyle is fun, warm, and community-focused. We enjoy doing a lot of different things together, including going on hikes, trying new restaurants, exploring new places, and spending time with friends and family. We love playing with our 2 dogs and 2 cats and often volunteer with local animal rescues. When James isn’t working as a government analyst, he spends his time writing fiction, exercising, and enjoying game nights with his friends. His ideal day would be playing basketball, followed by reading a good book in his favorite coffee shop (with Courtney!) before playing a board game with friends and family. When Courtney isn’t working as a Registered Nurse, she enjoys spending time outside, tending to her plants, crocheting, and volunteering at a local farm animal sanctuary. She loves doing anything with her hands and feeling connected to both nature and her community. Her ideal day would include going to the local farmers’ market and walking around downtown browsing through shops while sipping coffee, hand in hand with James. As much as we love staying active, we also prioritize slowing down and enjoying some quiet, relaxed days when we need to recharge. We have made our home very comfortable, cozy, and relaxing, so we love spending time here when we aren’t out and about!

Our Individual Strengths

Making Tacos and Hosting a Game Night

One of our strengths as a couple is that we lift each other up and celebrate each other’s individual strengths. We are each other’s greatest cheerleaders! Courtney: James is an amazing friend, husband, brother, and son. He always prioritizes people over things, and values spending time with the people he loves. He is kind, patient, and funny, and is frequently the person our friends, neighbors, and family will go to when they need advice or need their spirits lifted. James: Courtney is both a warm presence in our home and a bright shiny light to her friends and family. Full of joy, kindness, empathy, and curiosity, her greatest strengths come from her deep love for others and endless patience for those who need it. She’s used these qualities to be an incredible nurse as well as a wonderful wife, sister, daughter, and friend. She loves the people in her life fiercely and her heart will grow even larger to love, cherish, and protect her child.

Our Life Priorities

After Game Night with Friends

First and foremost, we prioritize the people in our life. Our friends and family are so important to us, and we feel so lucky to have such a good community. Our greatest joy is spending time with our loved ones and we strive to be kind, caring, and show up in good times and bad. Whenever our people need us, whether it’s taking a dog for a walk or driving someone to the airport, we make it happen. We prioritize our faith and spiritual health as well as taking care of ourselves physically with good food and exercise.

We also love experiences. We believe that life is full of joy and wonder and try to soak up as much of it as we can. Whether it’s travelling to a new city, trying a new restaurant, or going to our favorite movie theater, we love sharing everything together.

Finally, we try to prioritize kindness and caring in our community at large. We have welcomed refugees, made meals for those in need, and fostered animals, and we try to live in a way that cares for those who need the help the most.

Our Extended Families

With James' Family

We are both incredibly lucky to have loving, close-knit, and fun families. James’s family is a bit larger—and louder (they’re originally from New Jersey!)—with two brothers, their spouses, and children. We are very close with them and love spending time together (no phones allowed!) playing games, going for walks, and doing anything active. His family lives throughout North Carolina and Virginia, all within three hours. Gatherings are always lively and full of laughter, and each year everyone comes together at a beach house to eat too much, stay up too late, and leave with full hearts.

Courtney with Her Grandmother and Her Mom

Courtney’s family is smaller but just as fun and very adventurous. Her brother, sister-in-law, and parents all live in Virginia within a couple hours of each other. Courtney is especially close with her grandmother and uncles in New Mexico and visits them often with her mom. They love watching murder mysteries with her 90-year-old grandmother, who is sharper than all of them. They enjoy nights out, trying new restaurants, seeing shows, and traveling together. Family trips have included Costa Rica, Antigua, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii—highlighted by zip-lining down one of the tallest mountains in the world.

Family is deeply important to us. We believe in showing up for one another, celebrating milestones, and always making room for one more—people and dogs included. Our families are overjoyed and incredibly supportive of our adoption journey, and we cannot wait to share this loving and adventurous family with our future child!

Our House and Neighborhood

Home Sweet Home

We live in a beautiful town in central Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our town is known for its high quality of life, education, healthcare, and family-centered way of life. We are located only 1-2 hours from two major cities, so we also have the benefit of these as well. Our community is safe and deeply supportive, with neighbors who are warm, genuine, and truly look out for one another.

,p>Our area is known for being outdoorsy, including parks, hiking trails, and farmers’ markets. We live less than five minutes from a local apple orchard, a public art park/community space, and a children’s discovery museum. Our neighborhood is centrally located near the local university and hospital, popular restaurants, trails, and we’re next to the top elementary school in town.

Our neighborhood is diverse and made up largely of families, many connected to the local university and hospital. There’s a true “it takes a village” spirit here, with neighbors regularly helping one another with childcare, pets, and daily life. Our neighborhood has clubhouses, a playground, a dog park, and a gym.

We absolutely love our home. It’s a bright, open 2,200 sq ft, 4-bedroom, 4-bath townhome in the best neighborhood we could imagine. Our favorite space is the main floor, where we’ve hosted countless dinners, holidays, and movie nights. From our fenced backyard, we enjoy mountain views and sunsets, and love spending evenings around the fire pit while our dogs run and play.

From Us to You

Hello there,

Greetings from Virginia! We are James and Courtney, and it is so nice to meet you. First off, thank you so much for reading our profile and considering us. We believe adoption to be an incredibly courageous choice for birthmothers, and no matter who you select we know you will find the best fit for your child. We will be sending you all the best thoughts, prayers, and wishes along your way - so as you read these words, please know that we mean it, and you have someone cheering you on!

Ok, a little about us.

We live in a small city in central Virginia in an amazing neighborhood. Almost all of our friends (many of whom live in our neighborhood) are parents of babies and toddlers and are incredibly supportive of one another. We live near a few major cities but just far enough away to have a slower pace of life. Our families live nearby as well and are thrilled we are adopting and eager to jump in and help. We have a solid foundation and have been married for 12 years. We got married at 24 and have in some ways grown up together. We both feel so blessed that we chose a good partner, and before anything else we are each other’s best friends and greatest cheerleaders. Our home is cozy, tidy, and beautiful. Courtney is a big fan of the concept of “hygge”, which is a Danish term for a feeling of warmth and coziness, and is a good representation of how our environment looks and feels. We often have soft music playing and if the weather is nice our windows are open to the breeze. During the winter, we love putting on our fireplace, lighting some candles, and drinking hot chocolate.

We’ve always envisioned adoption as our path to becoming parents. James spent some time in the Air Force and we moved frequently, so we decided to wait until he left the military before growing our family. We don’t have any biological children, but we do have 2 amazing dogs and 2 snuggly cats who keep us busy. We both have very joyful, warm, and caring personalities, and we are so looking forward to raising a child together. We will surround them with the kindness and attention every child deserves, and we would love for them to have contact with you, if that is what you want. We will be eager to share their life with you in letters and pictures, and are open to emails, texts, and visits as well. We believe our son or daughter will thrive knowing and loving where they came from and plan to talk to them about their origin and to always reinforce that they are loved and chosen.

While we are generally very positive, upbeat people, we also don’t shy away from the hard things in life. Between James’s career in the military and Courtney’s career as a Registered Nurse, we are no strangers to seeing and doing hard things. We approach challenges with open arms, open eyes, and faith in God and each other. We practice empathy, listening, and forgiveness–and believe in drawing each other close and facing challenges together. As parents, we will love and care for our child with devotion, compassion, and patience, and we’ll provide them with the structures, boundaries, financial security, and education they will need to thrive. We hope to instill in them kindness, empathy, resilience, and joy, all built on a foundation of respect and safety.

So, with our very best wishes and deepest gratitude, thank you for considering us to take care of your child. Whichever way you choose, you got this!

Cheers,

James & Courtney
