Our Promise to You

Hiking in Colorado

We understand that adopting is a gift to us, but also an ultimate sacrifice from the birth family. We obviously cannot have children naturally, so any child will be cherished. We have both always wanted to have a family, this is one of the first things we ever talked about for our future. We promise to fully love your child, through the "terrible twos," their teenage years, and through their adult life. We understand that they may not always have an easy time growing up, and may struggle with their identity for various reasons. Being gay dads, we can help them through these struggles in life.

We will foster any talent or passion they want to pursue, giving them every opportunity they need to excel and grow. We will expose them to travel, arts, sciences, sports, explore the natural beauty of the world around them. We will teach them to be humble, and support their neighbors. Give them opportunities to volunteer. We will raise them to be better than us, and never forget where they came from and who loves them.

Our Leisure Time

Kyle Volunteering

We are a couple that works hard and plays hard (or relaxes hard). We are both sports fans, and fortunately love the same teams. We have enjoyed going to Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Guardians, and Cleveland Browns games. This is a way that we spend time with family also.

Traveling is very important to us. We travel both domestic and abroad. Josh's favorite type of vacation is to a beach. We go to Hawaii with our friends and their two young kids. So, traveling with kids is something we are used to, and plan to continue. Kyle enjoys exploring somewhere new every trip, but his favorite is going to Italy and enjoying all the pasta and cheese possible.

Josh Golfing in Hawaii

Kyle grew up going to Northern Michigan, enjoying family time at a cabin on land that has been in his family for over 100 years. We are very fortunate to be building our own cabin for our future family to enjoy.

When not traveling, our leisure time at home will be spent with our hobbies. We both enjoy running and riding bikes. Kyle enjoys cooking, using fresh ingredients from his garden every summer. Canning veggies, salsas and sauces to save for winter. Kyle volunteers weekly to provide free veterinary care to pets of the homeless, or people living in poverty. Josh's favorite hobby is spent golfing with friends, and he really hopes to teach our children to golf. We both also love to read.

Our Family Traditions

At the Family Lake Cabin

Family is, and will always be, very important to us both. Family is built on love, support, and traditions, but is not always blood. We are fortunate to have a very close family, but also friends we call family.

One of our favorite family traditions is hosting Thanksgiving since we bought our house in 2018. That first Thanksgiving we hosted about 24 friends and family. We were also still in the middle of remodeling some of our house, so there were 8 spending the night that had to share one full bathroom. Since then, the number varies every year, but the memories are just as good. If you like college football, you also know there is not much of a better rivalry than Ohio State versus Michigan football. They always play the Saturday after Thanksgiving. If it's a home game, we usually take our family with us to the game, or host a game watching party at our house if it's away.

Another family tradition is spending time at our family cabin in Northern Michigan. Our time here is usually spent around family dinners, followed by cards. Or playing music around a campfire, roasting marshmallows. Or spending time on the lake tubing, skiing, or fishing. Or going on hikes, catching bugs, snakes, frogs, toads - whatever we could get our hands on growing up.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We met in central Ohio and still live there today. We bought a house together in the fall of 2018, and fully remodeled it. Our neighborhood is a large subdivision that feels small but also diverse. Our neighborhood really looks after each other. Every year it hosts an Easter egg hunt in the park in the middle of our neighborhood. You can also go there to gather and watch fireworks on the 4th of July. And every Christmas, they organize a horse drawn carriage ride to see all the Christmas lights.

Our house is a two story with finished basement. We have five bedrooms, so plenty of options for your child to have their own space. Kyle's favorite space is our deck out back that he fills with potted plants in the summer, also overlooking his yearly vegetable garden. Josh's favorite space is a room in the basement we turned into a theater. There's a sound system through the house, so dance parties are common.

We live in a suburb just outside of a major city. Being so close to the city we have access to over 20 metro parks, a large zoo, a science learning center, cultural events, botanical gardens, water parks, and large bike trails. It is a very inclusive and diverse city, hosting a large PRIDE event every year. Our city has some of the best school districts in the state. And it has one of the most renowned children's hospitals in the country.

Our Extended Families

Kyle's Family

We are both the youngest of three boys in our families. Both families live relatively close to us and we see them often, whether it is for holidays, special events, or just random dinners and events. We have about a dozen nieces and nephews, so we are always bombarded instantly on arrival to start playing or wrestling around, which we wouldn't change for anything.

Josh's Family

Some of our favorite time with our families involve going to Cleveland sports games which is where Kyle first met Josh's family. We host, and Kyle cooks for, both our families together for Thanksgiving every year. Kyle's family has had land in the Northern Michigan for more than a century, where there are currently six cabins for the immediate family. We are currently in the process of building our own, which would make number seven. Like Kyle did as a child along with his brothers, we are excited about spending time up there during the summer with our own family.

Our families are excited to continue to grow our already large family with a child of ours. Like they have with our nieces and nephews, we are going to have ample support and guidance as we begin this journey from infancy to adulthood.

From Us to You

Thank you for considering our adoption profile. From the bottom of our hearts, we appreciate the time you are putting into this decision. We cannot begin to understand what this decision means for you. But, we promise that your child will always know the decision you made for adoption was one from love and sacrifice. Going through this process, it is hard to comprehend the joy that we feel for the opportunity to grow our family, but at the same time the possible pain coming from that gift on the other side. We promise we will never forget your role in helping to make our family complete.

A little bit about us: we got married in January 2023, but have been together since 2016. We met online while Kyle was finishing up veterinary school in Ohio. We were together for six months before Kyle had to move away for a year internship halfway across the country. With a fresh relationship, we committed to giving long distance a go. And here we are, years later, beginning to build our family. Having a family is one of the first things we talked about, when talking about our future. Being a gay couple, we did not have many options on how to do that. Adoption just felt more natural to us than going through surrogacy.

Through both our families, we have about a dozen nieces and nephews that we have changed diapers and watched grow up. Should you choose us for adoption, your child will grow up with a large extended family having grandparents, two great grandmothers, aunts and uncles, numerous cousins, and our friend family who will love and support them outside of just the two of us. As they say, it takes a village to raise a child, and they will have no better foundation for that village.

Our families have taught us the baseline on what it will take to be a parent, but some things we will still have to learn and figure out for ourselves. To us, being a parent simply means loving our child unconditionally, and supporting them in any way they need while growing up and figuring out who they are. This starts with the little moments growing up like reading books and playing with puzzle shape toys. To learning how to throw a ball, or learning how to play piano. From participating in sports or a high school musical. Guiding them through their first breakup. Or figuring out if they will dye their hair one color or another, or wanting a piercing. And everything in between, all the way up to applying to colleges and beyond. We are here for it all. This child will be able to be supported through anything they do, without barricades. We will see that they have plenty of pets, see the world around them, are well educated, and know how to have fun and find joy.

Our child's adoption will not be a secret, and we will be proud of the way our family was made. We will talk about adoption openly and honestly with our child. Our goal will be that they know exactly where they came from, and that it was done from a selfless act of love. We would love for you to be a part in planning of how those discussions will unfold with our child. We will be open to yearly letters, videos and photo updates to you, and would cherish the same in return. We will be open to gatherings together in the first few years of the child's life, and discuss if more visits would be meaningful to you. Every relationship is different, so we understand how this will unfold in the future may not be known yet. But, we are committed to working with you to navigate how our relationship will develop with you and your child in the future.

Thank you for considering us to become fathers to your child.
