What It Means to Be Parents

Taking in the Cool Ocean Breeze on Vacation

We are parents to Felipe (age 4) and are very much looking forward to our family growing through adoption.

Finding a Watering Hole on a Hot Day

Parenthood has been a remarkable and rewarding journey that has challenged and fulfilled us in ways we had never imagined. It's been a journey filled with unconditional love, immense joy, and incredible responsibilities. The role of a parent requires patience and dedication, but the joys and rewards it brings are immeasurable. As parents, we have had the privilege of shaping a young life, nurturing a child's growth, and creating a bond that will last a lifetime.

We have always considered adoption as a method of expanding our family. Phil's family is blessed with four adopted children: two nephews as well as twin daughters of one of his cousins. We know our extended family will be able to provide the love and support our adopted child may need.

Our Lifestyle

After School Fro-Yo Treat

Our lifestyle is best described as "balanced." Gaby is a urogynecologic surgeon and researcher. Phil is a structural engineer. Both professions are involved, but we both work from home three days a week and have purposely chosen organizations that give us the flexibility to spend our nights and weekends with family and friends.

Gaby in Her Garden

Before and after work, Gaby enjoys working in her garden where she grows various vegetables and fruits. On the weekends Felipe helps Gaby which has become a fun mother-and-son activity during which Felipe plants seeds and picks fruits and vegetables.

Felipe currently attends a small, family-owned Montessori school within our neighborhood during the week. He also plays baseball and soccer with local leagues.

When we're ready for some fun, you can find us at the local parks, trying local foods, and exploring the many attractions in our region.

Our Cultural Heritage

We have a very mixed cultural heritage. Gaby was born in Panama, but her parents are from Nicaragua. She came to the United States when she was 3 years old, and spent her childhood in Miami, Florida.

Phil was born in Miami, Florida. His mother is a Cuban immigrant, and his father was mixed American and Choctaw Indian.

We both grew up speaking Spanish at home and have continued that tradition with our son, Felipe.

Our culture is reflected in our regular cuisine. We love preparing dishes such as picadillo, empanadas, and ceviche but are also able to find Hispanic stapes throughout the greater Houston area. And since we live in Texas, we are always up for some great barbecue or some tasty tacos.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in Friendswood, Texas which is a small community in the suburbs of Houston. We have a large home with a playscape, garden, and plenty of yard space. Our home links to a walking path that leads to a brand-new, state of the art local elementary school as well as several community playgrounds, pools, a splash pad, and a lake park. Our neighborhood consists of active families and the community enjoys several holiday events including Santa riding around with the fire department, an Easter Egg hunt, and trick-or-treating.

Friendswood is filled with "mom and pop" businesses, great restaurants, and family-friendly activities. We love spending time outdoors at the city's parks and playgrounds as well as attending the many festivals and parades organized by the local community. The 4th of July celebration is the largest town gathering consisting of a parade, concert, and fireworks display. One of our favorite times of the year is during the holidays when almost every house is decorated with lights and the local park is turned into a winter wonderland. Friendswood is also known for having some of the best schools in the area.

Our town is nestled between the international city of Houston and the beaches of Galveston, each of which are 30 minutes from our home. As a family we love visiting Houston's museums, zoo, and watching the sports teams. The NASA space center is minutes away and has fun events planned throughout the year. And on a sunny day, we like to spend time relaxing and building sandcastles on one of Galveston's many beaches.

Our Extended Families

Family & Friends at Our Wedding

We are blessed to have grown up in loving and supportive families.

Although we have family spread out among many cities domestically as well as internationally, most of our family is in Miami, Florida. We frequently enjoy hoping on a short flight to visit them. When we visit Miami, we attend family gatherings, walk the beaches, and visit our favorite local Hispanic restaurants.

Abuela Is One of His Best Friends

Gaby's parents frequently visit and stay with us for several months at a time. Felipe enjoys spending this time with his grandparents and they are always doing something fun together such as playing in the backyard, going for ice cream after school, or watching movies at night.

We also love having family and close friends stay with us in the greater Houston area.

We consider family to be very important and are excited to make new memories with our newest member.

From Us to You

We understand that you are facing a decision that may be one of the most challenging and selfless acts of love you will ever make - the decision to place your child for adoption. We want to express our deepest appreciation for considering adoption and taking the time to learn about us.

We are a loving couple who have been eagerly waiting to grow our family through adoption. We have been married for six years and are blessed with a wonderful four-year old son. We come from loving and accepting families, some members of which have been touched by adoption.

We want to assure you that our adopted child will be welcomed into a home filled with love, stability, and endless opportunities for growth and happiness. We are committed to providing a nurturing and supportive environment where our adopted child will thrive and flourish.

As potential adoptive parents, we understand and respect the emotions and choices that come with adoption. We are committed to having an open and honest relationship with you as it can provide our adopted child with a deeper understanding of their roots, identity, and the love of their birth family. We are open to exchanging letters, photos, and visits to the extent that you are comfortable, and we are committed to maintaining a lifelong connection if that is your desire.

Our home is filled with love, laughter, and adventure. We enjoy spending time together as a family, whether it's exploring nature, reading books, cooking together, or simply cuddling up for movie nights. We are excited about the prospect of sharing these experiences with our adopted child and providing them with a safe and happy environment to thrive.

As parents, we are committed to providing our adopted child with a quality education and supporting their passions and interests. We will encourage them to pursue their dreams and be there to celebrate their achievements, big and small. We will also teach them the importance of empathy, kindness, and respect towards others and themselves.

Thank you for considering us as potential adoptive parents. We wish you strength and comfort as you make this decision, and we are here to support you in any way we can.

With warmest regards,

Phil & Gaby
